$1 million granted from the provincial government On Friday, September 23, 2011, the provincial government has awarded the second of 3 cheques for $1 million to the Jerry Forbes Centre for Community Spirit. Friday morning, MLAs Gene Zwozdesky, Janice Sarich, Carl Benito, Naresh Bhardwaj, and Dave Hancock delivered a cheque from Culture and Community Spirit Minister Lindsay Blackett and Premier Ed Stelmach. John Holmlund, who chairs the Jerry Forbes Centre Capital Campaign, says the support is important to the campaign. "This is tremendous for the Jerry Forbes Centre, as we are now entering our community campaign and our main capital campaign," says Holmlund, "We can now say to potential major donors that this is again proof that the province supports this and is behind this project."
Zwozdesky has fond memories of taking part in 630 CHED Santas Anonymous. "Delivering toys with my children was one of my lifelong best memories," he says. "It goes back almost 20 years now, when they were very little. But, the fact is that it's a great way to do something for the community, and at the same time, have your children experience the true spirit and meaning of giving." $3 million in provincial funding announced On May 16th, Honourable Lindsay Blacket, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, announced on behalf of the provincial government, that the Jerry Forbes Centre will receive $3 Million in provincial funding through the Community Facility Enhancement Program. "The new Jerry Forbes Centre for Community Spirit will go a long way in helping local non-profit organizations operaate more efficiently and better serve therr clients, said Minister Blackett. "It is a fantastic legacy to an inspirational man." Minister Blackett was joined by many of his colleagues from the Alberta Legislature to make the cheque presentation. Mayor Stephen Mandel and a number of community leaders were also in attendance to hear the good news.
